Sunflower

Sunflower is a type of oil seed. It has yellow flowers on the head. Sunflower needs a tropical or subtropical climate within 500-1200 millimeters of annual rain. Mostly sunflower cultivated by northern Amhara region, south and eastern Ethiopia regions.

The original sunflower that we are supplying oil (linoleic sunflower oil) is high in polyunsaturated fatty acids (about 68% linoleic acid) and low in saturated fats, such as palmitic acid and stearic acid. However, various hybrids have been developed to alter the fatty acid profile of the crop for various purposes.

Protein contains (Total crude protein 30%, Digestable crude Protein 23%, Total digestable Nutrients 71%). Essential Amino acids(Lysine 1.1%, Methionine 0.65%, Cysteine 0.50%, Threonine 1%, Troptophan 0.38%

Our sweet, nutty sunflower seeds are an excellent source of calories (100 g seeds consist of 584 calories), essential fatty acids, vitamins, antioxidants and minerals. The seeds are mainly employed in the extraction of edible oil at a commercial scale all over the world. Its seeds are eaten as delicious snacks by humans and birds alike!

Much of their calories come from fatty acids. The seeds are especially rich in poly-unsaturated fatty acid linoleic acid, which comprise more 50% fatty acids in them. They are also good in mono-unsaturated oleic acid that helps lower LDL or "bad cholesterol" and increases HDL or "good-cholesterol" in the blood. Research studies suggest that Mediterranean diet which is rich in monounsaturated fats help to prevent coronary artery disease and stroke by favoring healthy lipid profile.

In addition, our sunflower seeds contain health benefiting poly-phenol compounds such as chlorogenic acid, quinic acid, and caffeic acids. These are natural anti-oxidants, which help remove harmful oxidant molecules from the body. Further, chlorogenic acid helps reduce blood sugar levels by limiting glycogen breakdown in the liver.

Further, our seeds are indeed a very rich source of vitamin E (vitamin E is particularly apparent in the case of the skin, since vitamin E directly protects the skin from ultraviolet radiation); contain about 35.17 g per100 g (about 234% of RDA). Vitamin E is a powerful lipid soluble antioxidant, required for maintaining the integrity of cell membrane of mucus membranes and skin by protecting it from harmful oxygen-free radicals. Sunflower kernels among is one of the finest sources of B-complex group of vitamins. They are very good sources of B-complex vitamins such as niacin, folic acid, thiamin (vitamin B1), pyridoxine (vitamin B6), pantothenic acid, and riboflavin.

The seeds which we are exporting are organic and are incredibly rich sources of many essential minerals. Calcium, iron, manganese, zinc, magnesium (studies have demonstrated magnesium helps diminish the frequency of migraine attacks, lowers blood pressure and helps prevent heart attacks.), selenium, and copper are especially concentrated in sunflower. Many of these minerals have a vital role in bone mineralization, red blood cell production, enzyme synthesis, hormone production, as well as regulation of cardiac and skeletal muscle activities. Sunflower seeds are a good source of selenium. Studies suggest a strong correlation between low selenium intake and cancer incidence.

We keep our stock at moisture content around 9% to prevent insect and or disease outbreaks in storage. Usually our storage system carefully fumigated and cleaned before storing the stock and all storage areas we have monitored regularly to identify potential problems early. We often pack at the time of sales in 50kg package system but it might vary depend on the demand of the buyers.
