Linseed

Linseed is a type of oil seed, most cultivating regions in Ethiopia includes northern Shewa, some Amhara regions, most Oromia regions and regions which have a cool or subtropical climate within 450-500 millimeters of annual rain.

Our Linseeds are the richest source of different kinds of basic nutrition for human being. For this in 100gm of linseed researches show that one can find 40gm of oil, 28gm of Carbohydrate, 21gm protein, 7.6gm water and 3.4gm different minerals.

Linseed, also known as flaxseed, is the richest source of omega 3 essential fatty acids. It contains 50 to 50 percent omega 3s, almost twice as much as is contained in fish oil. Because it comes from a plant source, it is perfect for vegetarian and vegan diets, although it benefits everybody. Linseed/flaxseed oil differs from most vegetables oils in that it provides linoleic acid and alpha linolenic acid, both of which are needed by the body and must be obtained through the diet. These essential fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties, offering health benefits to a number of chronic diseases such as Heart disease, Diabetes and Arthritis.

The benefits of our linseed have been recommended in the treatment of constipation predominate Irritable bowel Syndrome (IBS) for some time, and with great results. However, the health benefits of these little seeds stretch beyond their use in treating IBS to; improving digestive function, reducing bloating, preventing constipation, improving blood cholesterol levels & heart health, reducing the symptoms of the menopause and possibly improving insulin sensitivity & blood glucose control.

Moreover the seeds are a great source of gluten/wheat free fibre. They promote bowel movement by increasing the water content and bulk volume of our stools, keeping us nice and regular. Fibre is important in the prevention of bowel cancer, constipation and slowing the absorption of sugar into our blood stream.

Our Linseed improves the quality of hair, nails, and skin, helps to regulate body weight, lowers cholesterol and blood pressure, and prevents arthritis and cancers. It also helps us feel calm during stress – omega 3 fatty acid prevents excess toxic biochemicals that the body produces under stress.

The flax plant yields the fibre from which linen is made as well as seeds and oil. Linseed is highly unsaturated and heart healthy. The lignans and other components of the seed may also have antioxidant properties, allowing them to reduce the activity of cell-damaging free radicals.

We keep our stock at moisture content around 9% to prevent insect and or disease outbreaks in storage. Usually our storage system carefully fumigated and cleaned before storing the stock and all storage areas we have monitored regularly to identify potential problems early. We often pack at the time of sales in 50kg package system but it might vary depend on the demand of the buyers.
