Peanuts are known by many other local names such as earthnuts, ground nuts, goober peas, monkey nuts, pygmy nuts and pig nuts. Despite its name and appearance, it is a type of oil seeds. The shell or pod of the peanuts contains two, rarely three kernels in individual case like pods. Delicious, crunchy, and nutty peanuts are one of the popular oil seeds known to humankind since ancient times. The seed grown in Ethiopia is of around 12 species. Groundnut needs a tropical climate with more than 600-900 millimeters of annual rain.
A single seed of groundnut which we are supplying contains almost 50% oil, 30% of protein, 20% energy (Carbohydrates, Dietary Fiber, Total Fat, and Cholesterol). The nuts are enriched with many noteworthy health-benefiting nutrients that are essential for optimum health:
Heart Healthy Fats: Peanuts contain monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats that keep the heart healthy. A good level, of both; monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats results in lowering blood cholesterol levels, and thereby reducing the risk of coronary heart diseases.
Proteins: Protein is essential to the health of our cells. The cells in our body are constantly being replaced and repaired. To ensure that the new cells are healthy, and the damaged ones are repaired well, we need protein. Peanuts are an extremely high source of plant protein. It should be regularly incorporated in diet for children, vegetarians and protein deficient people.
Antioxidants: Peanuts contain high concentrations of the antioxidant polyphenols, primarily a compound called p-coumaric acid and oleic acid that not only protect the heart but inhibit the growth of free radicals keeping infection at bay.
Minerals: A rich source of minerals like magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, calcium, sodium, copper, manganese, selenium etc, so needed by our body to function well, is ensured by a regular consumption of peanuts. Adequate supplies of these minerals ensure a healthy heart, and ensure minimized risk of mineral deficient diseases.
Vitamins: Vitamins are important for overall growth and development. Vitamins ensure vital health for cells and tissues, and for fighting infections, etc, that in return ensure smooth functioning of our organs. Peanuts provide our body with essential vitamins (Folates Niacin, Pantothenic acid, Pyridoxine, Riboflavin, Thiamin, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E ), that also help in regulating metabolism, converting fat and carbohydrates into energy, and facilitating bone and tissue formation. A good source of folate, peanuts reduce the incidence of birth defects, and anemia related conditions.
Peanuts that we are exporting have a variety of industrial end uses. Paint, varnish, lubricating oil, leather dressings, furniture polish, insecticides, and nitroglycerin are made from peanut oil. Soap is made from saponified oil, and many cosmetics contain peanut oil and its derivatives. The protein portion is used in the manufacture of some textile fibers. Peanut shells are used in the manufacture of plastic, wallboard, abrasives, fuel, cellulose (used in rayon and paper) and mucilage (glue).
We keep our stock at moisture content around 2% which is dry areas to prevent insect and or disease outbreaks in storage. Usually our storage system carefully fumigated before storing the stock and all storage areas we have monitored regularly to identify potential problems early. We often pack at the time of sales in 50kg and 25 kg package systems but it might vary depend on the demand of the buyers.
